Backlit Starlight Perforated Stainless Steel Ceiling Panels

Small backlit perforations create a starlight ceiling effect for lounges and cinema interiors, with lighting and access coordinated separately.
Product description

Starlight perforated stainless steel ceiling panels create a field of small illuminated points across an overhead surface. The effect shown in this collection suits lounges, private cinemas, covered terraces, entrance areas and hospitality interiors that need a quieter, atmospheric ceiling feature. The pattern can extend across a flat ceiling plane or work within shaped ceiling sections, with the panel layout arranged to support the intended distribution of light. Xinmao Metal produces custom decorative stainless steel ceiling panels for projects where ceiling detailing is an important part of the interior concept. The panel size, perforation layout, visible joints and surrounding edge treatment can be developed around the space, helping the starlight effect remain orderly from close range and across the room. A bronze-toned finish brings additional warmth to the feature when paired with soft lighting and dark interior materials.

Backlighting and Service Coordination

The starlight effect comes from the coordinated perforation pattern and backlighting. Lighting fixtures are not included by default; agree the fixture specification, independent support, wiring and driver access with the project team before fabrication.

Ceiling system

Modular panel, linear, baffle, and custom feature ceiling systems tailored to your Reflected Ceiling Plan (RCP), lighting cutouts, and MEP service requirements.

Information for review
  • Approve a lit section that includes the intended perforation distribution, joint and perimeter condition before proceeding with the full ceiling field.
  • Confirm the agreed backlighting supply scope, fixture and driver access, wiring route and independent supports with the electrical contractor.
  • Set out shaped-panel joints and removable service areas before fixing the carrier system; do not assume every panel remains independently removable.
  • Protect the finished perforations from debris and inspect the completed light-point pattern under agreed conditions. Do not add unapproved backing that changes the specified assembly or obstructs lighting. Further guidance: Architectural metal systems and project coordination

System format

Panel, linear baffle, open-cell, perforated feature, or custom architectural ceiling modules.

Format selection is guided by aesthetic intent, acoustic requirements, MEP service integration, and access strategy.

Module direction

Linear runs, regular grids, radial layouts, curved zones, or mixed module arrangements.

Module orientation aligns seamlessly with spatial circulation, lighting layouts, and primary architectural axes.

Ceiling depth

Engineered to suit available plenum depth, primary suspension, MEP service zones, and access clearance.

Finished ceiling levels correspond to coordinated RCP drawings, structural slab heights, and site constraints.

Ceilings developed as part of the interior system

An architectural metal ceiling must seamlessly balance visual intent with MEP services, maintenance access, and structural suspension. Xinmao engineers visible modules and concealed supports directly around your Reflected Ceiling Plan (RCP).

Backlit Starlight Perforated Stainless Steel Ceiling Panels

A Fine Light-Point Field Creates The Starlight Character

Small illuminated openings spread across the ceiling to create a more atmospheric overhead feature than a large geometric pattern. The field can suit a private cinema or hospitality lounge where the ceiling contributes to the room's mood. Agree the point distribution through a lit sample instead of relying on the finish colour alone.

Panel Geometry Can Remain Flat Or Become Shaped

A flat recessed field offers one arrangement, while shaped ceiling sections introduce a more articulated version of the same light-point idea. The selected panel geometry needs its own joints and edge details. Changing the outline does not remove the need to coordinate the backlighting cavity, supporting frame and access sequence.

Perimeter Lighting Can Frame The Smaller Points

A continuous illuminated border can set a clear boundary around the scattered starlight field. It adds a different scale of light rather than substituting for the smaller openings. Develop border lighting, downlights and the perforation layout together so each has a defined role in the completed ceiling.

Backlighting Is A Separately Agreed Project Element

The visual effect depends on coordinated perforations and the specified backlighting. Fixtures are not included by default. Confirm light-source positions, cavity requirements, wiring, drivers and independent supports with the project team, including how components can be reached without damaging the finished metal panels.

An Atmospheric Ceiling Is Not An Acoustic Specification

The starlight appearance can form part of a cinema or lounge interior, but does not establish sound absorption, isolation or fire performance. Any such requirement needs a defined complete assembly and supporting evidence. Keep the decorative pattern and finish approval separate from those engineering and regulatory decisions.

A ceiling that works above and below the surface

Visible aesthetic design and concealed MEP coordination are engineered in unison.

Small Points Give The Overhead Field Its Atmosphere

The fine opening distribution creates a different character from larger cutout motifs or reflective ripple panels.

Recessed And Shaped Layouts Offer Different Compositions

A quieter flat field or a more articulated ceiling can carry the light-point idea with project-specific edges.

A Lit Border Defines The Feature Perimeter

The surrounding line of light can frame the smaller points without replacing their visual role.

A Warm Metallic Tone Complements Dimmer Interiors

The selected bronze-toned direction can relate to lounge finishes, with the final appearance assessed under the intended lighting.

What a coordinated metal ceiling solves

Project challenge

MEP cutouts interrupt ceiling pattern

Metal ceiling questions

Practical answers for teams reviewing a custom architectural ceiling package.

Custom architectural stainless steel screen detail
01Who designs the suspension and fixings for a custom metal ceiling?

Responsibilities should be defined in the project scope. Xinmao can develop decorative panels and visible interfaces from approved information; the responsible engineer and ceiling system supplier must confirm loads, hangers, anchors, fire requirements and local approvals for the complete installation.

02What should a ceiling mock-up include?

A useful mock-up includes the actual finish, a typical joint, a curved or folded transition if used, a service opening, backing, support and one removal sequence. This allows the team to assess the pattern, flatness, light effect and access together.

03How are perforated panels cleaned and maintained?

Cleaning depends on the approved finish, perforation, backing and site environment. Agree a finish-specific care method and access route with the supplier and facilities team, and test the method on a sample before applying it to the installed ceiling.

04When would a honeycomb-core ceiling panel be considered instead of a solid metal panel?

It may be considered when a large, relatively flat panel and lower assembly weight are design priorities. Suitability depends on the complete face/core construction, edge closure, suspension, fire requirements and verified project data. Compare approved assemblies, not material labels alone.

05Can Xinmao supply honeycomb-core ceiling panels?

This requires product-level confirmation. Xinmao's public case material currently documents honeycomb panels for walls, columns, elevator areas and facades, while its ceiling collection shows stainless steel feature and perforated panels.

06Can a mashrabiya-inspired pattern be used on a metal ceiling?

A geometric openwork pattern may be adapted for a decorative ceiling if the panel, support, lighting, access and finish are developed for that overhead location. Describe it as mashrabiya-inspired metalwork rather than a traditional mashrabiya.

07What ceiling formats can be developed?

Projects may use panels, strips, baffles, open-cell layouts, perforated features or custom-formed elements, subject to the design and approved build-up.

08What information is needed for design review?

Please provide the reflected ceiling plan, levels, room dimensions, service layouts, access requirements, finish references and available substrate information.

09Can lighting and service openings be integrated?

Yes. Confirmed locations can be coordinated into modules, trims or removable areas before production.

10Can the ceiling be coordinated with an acoustic system?

The metal finish layer can be coordinated with a separately specified backing assembly. Required acoustic performance must be confirmed for the complete approved system.

11Can panels be removed for maintenance?

Removable modules or access panels can be developed where services require access, subject to the selected ceiling system.

12How is the ceiling finish approved?

Physical samples are reviewed for colour, texture, sheen and direction. A mock-up may be useful where lighting and reflection are critical.

13How is the suspension system selected?

The support concept follows the module, ceiling level, receiving structure, access and coordinated project requirements.

14What is required for an initial quotation?

Share the ceiling area, module concept, finish, project location, available drawings, quantities and programme information.
