FAQ

Is a stainless steel column cover structural?

No. A decorative column cover is a finish around an existing column or support. It does not replace structural steel or concrete, and it should not be treated as a structural repair or a fire-rated enclosure. The project design team should verify the existing column and any required protective assembly before cladding is changed.

Can you clad an existing round, square or irregular column?

Yes. Xinmao develops round, square, rectangular, faceted and project-specific covers from approved dimensions or a coordinated site survey. The final profile also depends on the space needed for support, seams, services and adjacent finishes.

How much larger will the finished column be?

The finished size is the existing column plus the approved support and cladding build-up. Share the core dimensions and required clearances before design so the outer line can be checked against walkways, doors, furniture, walls and ceiling edges.

What information do you need to quote custom metal column covers?

Please send plans and elevations, each column's shape and surveyed dimensions, height, quantity, intended finish, project location, substrate information, head and base conditions, access points and any fire or service restrictions. Photos and a reflected ceiling plan help identify interfaces early.

Do you need site measurements before fabrication?

For existing buildings, a coordinated survey is recommended before final production drawings are approved. Check the column at several heights and orientations, plus its plumb, surrounding finishes and available installation clearance. The team should agree how any deviation from the drawings will be handled.

Can the cover hide pipes or electrical services?

A cover can be planned around known services where there is sufficient space and the project team approves the detail. Identify valves, junction boxes, inspection points and required clearances early; selected panels may need to remain removable. Cladding must not conceal access or alter a required fire-protective assembly without approval.

Can a column cover be installed without removing the existing column?

Decorative covers are developed to fit around an existing column. Depending on access and geometry, the cover may be divided into sections and fixed to an approved support system. The installation sequence and fixing locations should be shown on the shop drawings.
