CUSTOM STAINLESS STEEL COLUMN COVERS

Perforated and Textured Stainless Steel Feature Columns

Perforated faces, ribbed sections and textured colour directions turn selected stainless steel column covers into distinctive hospitality and commercial features.
Product description

Decorative stainless steel column cladding can turn a structural element into a strong interior feature. This group shows warm and expressive treatments, including glossy oxblood color, ribbed white panels, bronze perforation, fine gold mosaic, hammered texture and an earth-brown surface. The cylindrical forms are built from shaped metal sections, with bands, rings or patterned skins used to change the scale and shadow around the column. These details suit restaurants, hotel lounges, reception areas, retail atriums and feature zones where the material needs more character than a plain silver cover. Perforated and textured surfaces can be paired with smooth sections so the design remains balanced at close range and across the full height. Xinmao Metal develops custom stainless steel column covers around the selected pattern, color direction, panel rhythm and surrounding lighting, giving architects and interior contractors a practical metal feature for distinctive commercial spaces.

Column geometry and finish

Profile-led design:
Round, square, rectangular, faceted and project-specific column forms can be developed from approved dimensions or survey information.

Finish coordination:
Brushed, satin, mirror, textured, PVD or other approved finish directions can be reviewed alongside adjacent architectural metalwork.

Panel strategy:
Segmented wraps, access panels and controlled seam positions help the cover follow the elevation while remaining practical to handle and install.

Installation coordination
  • Freeze the selected design rather than combining the six reference treatments. Mark perforations, ribs, rings and any non-metal infill on a coordinated elevation and component schedule.
  • Approve pattern artwork, solid edge zones and accessible-edge finishing for perforated sections; confirm their support independently of surrounding counters, furniture or fixtures.
  • Review the selected texture, colour and band junction on a sample before producing repeated pieces. Confirm each supplied material instead of identifying it from a mosaic-like or glossy appearance.
  • Keep lighting and other equipment supports separate unless expressly designed otherwise. Protect formed faces during assembly and inspect alignment without claiming acoustic, fire or impact performance from the pattern. Further guidance: Architectural metal systems and project coordination

PRODUCT DETAILS

Stainless Steel Column Covers

Five engineering decisions for developing stainless steel column covers and metal wraps around project geometry, finish intent and installation constraints.

Typical parameters for preliminary design. Final geometry, material, finish, joints and fixing details are confirmed against approved drawings, samples and site conditions.

Silver Brushed Stainless Steel Column Hotel Lobby

Column profile

Round, square, rectangular, faceted or project-specific column forms developed from approved dimensions.

Profile selection establishes the panel shape, seam logic and relationship with adjacent walls, ceilings and floors.

Cover build-up

Single-piece wraps, multi-panel cladding, segmented shells, framed covers or removable service sections.

The build-up is selected around the column geometry, handling route, fixing method and access requirements.

Dimension control

Developed from drawings, approved dimensions, survey information or a coordinated site measurement.

Final dimensions follow the actual column, surrounding build-up, panel joints and installation tolerances.

Column covers designed around the architecture

A stainless steel column cover has to do more than hide a structural element. It must follow the geometry, hold a consistent finish, allow for access and sit naturally within the surrounding architecture. Xinmao develops each wrap as a coordinated package from drawing review to installation.

Select a Feature Treatment Rather Than One Standard Skin

This family brings together perforated metal, ribbed faces, textured warm tones and a glossy red direction. Each creates a different visual emphasis around a cylindrical form. Select one treatment and its component boundaries before detailing the cover; the gallery is not a single assembly containing every illustrated finish.

Perforated Faces with a Defined Border Layout

The perforated reference gives the round column a visible open-pattern skin. Agree the hole arrangement, solid fixing zones and panel edges on artwork before manufacture. The pattern does not establish ventilation, acoustic performance or a hole size, and any nearby circular counter needs its own reviewed support.

Ribbed Sections Introduce a Vertical Rhythm

Pale ribs and darker divided lower sections offer different ways to emphasise height. Confirm the selected profile, spacing and meeting with the plain bands through a sample detail. Their visible shape does not prove that every rib or contrasting infill uses the same material or production method.

Mosaic-Like and Hammered Looks Need Separate Samples

Fine gold surface detail and a larger hammered-looking texture give two distinct scales of reflection. Identify the intended finish and material construction from a physical sample rather than equating their appearances. The reference is a design direction, not evidence that a small repeating pattern is an internal honeycomb structure.

Glossy Red and Earth Tones Offer Other Directions

The red reflective and muted brown examples demonstrate a broader palette than conventional silver cladding. Review the chosen colour, sheen and component breaks under the actual room lighting. Neither the colour name nor a glossy image identifies a coating chemistry, a corrosion rating or the final supplied surface system.

Bands and Rings Organise the Column Height

Horizontal rings can separate different textures or divide a taller face into legible sections. Set their positions with the vertical seams and top/base terminations so the chosen treatment reads deliberately. Lighting visible beside a band is a separately specified feature, not a default part of every cover.

Does Texture Establish a Performance Advantage?

No acoustic, fire, impact or structural rating is established by a textured or perforated appearance alone. Confirm any required evidence for the actual cover, backing and attachment arrangement. Where no performance requirement is specified, describe the selected treatment as decorative column cladding rather than a protective or certified system.

How Is a Mixed-Finish Column Specified?

Provide a marked elevation identifying the selected pattern, colour fields, rings and plain sections. Add the column profile, site dimensions and sample references, and distinguish any non-metal infill. This gives the quotation a buildable decorative scope without assuming the original column or adjacent furniture is included.

Details that make a column cover work

A column cover is strongest when geometry, surface, joints and access are resolved as one architectural package.

Perforation as a Visible Cylindrical Pattern

An open-pattern face adds a different level of detail around the column, with borders and panel divisions developed alongside the chosen hole layout.

Vertical Ribs Against Plain End Bands

A ribbed field can be framed by smoother sections, creating a contrast in rhythm and shadow rather than repeating one surface across the full height.

Fine or Broad Texture for Different Viewing Distances

Mosaic-like and hammered-looking directions offer different scales of detail, allowing designers to choose the intended surface through a representative material sample.

Colour and Rings Divide the Feature Deliberately

Glossy, muted and warm-metal directions can be organised with planned horizontal bands, while each supplied material and finish remains clearly specified.

Column Cover Challenges & Solutions

Project challenge

The column needs a new finish without making the space feel heavy

Xinmao response

We use profile, panel depth, surface texture and pattern scale to give the column presence while keeping the surrounding space legible.

Frequently asked questions

Practical answers for architects, contractors and project teams reviewing stainless steel column covers.

Custom architectural stainless steel screen detail
01How are corners, column bases and ceiling transitions finished?

These interfaces should be drawn together with the surrounding floor, wall and ceiling finishes. Folded returns, trims, controlled joints or other approved details can be sampled to check appearance and touch points before production.

02Where will the vertical seams and fasteners be visible?

Seam positions depend on the column profile, panel size, finish direction and installation access. They can be located and reviewed in the approved elevation and sample. Concealed fixing may be possible for a specific build-up, but a completely seamless appearance should not be assumed.

03Can the cover be removed later for maintenance?

Serviceable sections can be incorporated when identified before fabrication. Confirm the access location, panel release method and clearance needed to remove the section after nearby finishes and furniture are installed.

04Which finish works for a high-traffic lobby?

Brushed, satin, mirror, textured and PVD finishes create different levels of reflection and show contact differently. Review physical samples under the project's lighting and cleaning conditions, especially at hand height and near corners. Final material and finish selection should follow the project specification.

05Can the same detail be used outdoors?

Outdoor column covers require separate review of exposure, material grade, movement, drainage, base clearance, support and dissimilar-metal contact. Interior decorative details should not be copied outdoors without a project-specific detail.

06Where can stainless steel column covers be used?

They can be considered for hotel lobbies, retail interiors, offices, residences, restaurants, public buildings, transport hubs and selected exterior applications. The final specification should respond to the actual location and exposure.

07Can the cover follow a round or irregular column?

Yes. Round, square, rectangular, faceted and project-specific profiles can be developed from approved dimensions, drawings or coordinated site measurements.

08Which stainless steel grades may be considered?

Grades such as 304 or 316 may be considered depending on the project location, exposure, specification and approved finish. The final grade and gauge should be confirmed for the actual project.

09Can the finish match other metalwork in the project?

Finish references and physical samples can be reviewed alongside nearby metalwork, stone, timber or glass. Colour, texture, sheen and grain direction should be approved before production.

10How are seams and access panels handled?

Seams, returns, base and head details, removable sections and service openings are positioned around the elevation and the access requirements of the column.

11Can column covers be used outdoors?

Outdoor use can be considered, but the material, finish, backing, drainage, fixings and local exposure conditions must be reviewed for the specific project.

12What information is needed for a quotation?

Overall dimensions, column profile, quantity, project location, intended use, finish preference, pattern references and available drawings provide a useful starting point.

13How is a column cover installed?

Installation may use concealed brackets, frames, substrate fixing or removable sections depending on the existing condition. Base, head, wall, floor and service interfaces should be confirmed during detailing.

14How should the finished cover be cleaned?

Use a soft cloth with clean water or a neutral cleaner suitable for the approved finish. Avoid abrasive pads and unsuitable acidic or alkaline chemicals.

15Can you develop the cover from our architectural drawings?

Yes. Share the relevant elevations, plans, dimensions, reference images and site information. We can then review the profile, panel divisions, finish direction and fixing interfaces.
