Khamia Mishaia Hotel is a three-star hospitality project in Saudi Arabia. The client's request was focused and practical: use a decorative screen wall to improve the character of the public interior. The lobby already had large wall planes, a long lounge area and views down adjacent corridors. What it needed was a vertical feature with enough scale to hold those spaces together, without turning the lobby into a closed-off room.

Xinmao Metal supplied a custom laser-cut stainless steel decorative screen in 304 stainless steel with a PVD finish. Each principal screen area measured 3,000 by 2,500 mm and used 1.5 mm material. The completed work is used as a screen wall rather than a freestanding object. It sits within the architecture, creating a patterned backdrop above the lounge and a more considered transition at the corridor edge.

This is an effective role for a stainless steel decorative partition in hotel interiors. It gives a large plain wall a reason to exist, breaks up the scale of the lobby and introduces a level of privacy at seating areas. At the same time, the laser-cut pattern keeps the surface permeable. Guests can still read the room beyond it, daylight can move through the openings and the hotel retains the generous feel of its public spaces.

The screen does not need to take over the lobby. Its job is to give the room a calm visual structure, then let the furniture, lighting and circulation sit around it naturally.

Why the pattern had to work at two distances

A screen wall in a hotel lobby is seen first from across the room, then again at arm's length. From the lounge, the overall pattern has to read clearly against the wall and the soft furnishings. In the corridor, guests see the cut edges, the repetition of the openings and the relationship between the screen frame and the surrounding finishes. Both views matter.

The Khamia Mishaia project uses a geometric laser-cut pattern with enough rhythm to carry the full height of the wall. The openings create texture without becoming visually busy. That balance is important in a lobby, where visitors may be waiting, meeting colleagues or simply moving through. A denser pattern would have made the wall feel heavier. A more open pattern could have disappeared against the background. The selected design holds its own, yet it leaves the room breathing space.

The PVD-finished surface adds another layer. It catches changes in daylight and the warm interior lighting, which helps the screen register as metal rather than as a flat painted panel. The finish is most convincing when it is handled carefully through the last stages of installation. Once a screen becomes a prominent wall feature, fingerprints, scratches and uneven reflections are easier to notice than they would be on a concealed component.

A large panel with a direct fixing strategy

The screen's 3,000 by 2,500 mm size made fixing part of the design conversation. Large decorative panels need a secure connection at the points where they meet the building structure. For this project, the installation used mechanical expansion anchors at the top and bottom of the assembly, with adhesive applied to reinforce the fixing. This gave the screen a direct and controlled installation method while keeping the visible surface clean.

The sequence matters. The setting-out lines have to be checked before the first fixing point is made, because a decorative grid immediately reveals a screen that is out of level or out of plumb. The installer needs to establish the final position, secure the panel at the top and bottom, then use the adhesive reinforcement in a way that does not affect the front finish. The aim is simple: the completed panel should look as though it belongs to the wall, not as though it has been added over it.

At 1.5 mm thick, the 304 stainless steel sheet also requires sensible handling. The material provides the crispness needed for a laser-cut pattern, but the panel still needs support during transport, lifting and alignment. Protecting the PVD surface is part of that process. The finished face should be the last thing to receive attention on site, not the first thing exposed to traffic from other trades.

Turning a wall into part of the guest experience

Hotel lobbies rely on a small number of elements to make their first impression. The reception desk, the ceiling, the seating groups and the wall behind them do most of the work. In this project, the screen wall changes that wall from a neutral boundary into a piece of architecture. Its pattern brings a measurable degree of order to the lounge and gives guests something more considered to look at while they wait.

The photos show the screen in several conditions: behind lounge furniture, at the end of a corridor and across a taller interior wall. In each position, the result is similar but not repetitive. The same stainless steel screen system has enough scale to be read from the lobby floor, while its openings prevent the wall from becoming monolithic. This is particularly useful in a compact hotel, where public areas need to feel welcoming without adding unnecessary partitions.

The client feedback was positive because the screenwork lifted the overall aesthetic of the hotel and gave the interior a more elegant character. That response is not simply about the PVD finish or the pattern on its own. It comes from how the two work with the existing layout: the screen reinforces the lounge zones, gives the corridor a destination and creates a visual thread between different parts of the lobby.

For the fabrication team, the visible result starts with information that is easy to overlook: the finished opening size, the allowable tolerance at the wall, the exact anchor positions and the direction in which the pattern will be read. Confirming those points before cutting avoids a familiar site problem, where a panel is correct in isolation but difficult to place once neighbouring finishes are complete. The screen can then be made with its fixing strategy in mind instead of being altered on site.

The project also shows that a smaller hotel does not need an oversized catalogue of decorative elements to feel considered. One repeated metal language is often more useful. At Khamia Mishaia, the screen wall gives the lounge and approach corridor a shared reference point. The furniture, marble floor and soft lighting remain distinct, but they now sit within a public space that has a stronger centre of gravity.

What this project shows about decorative screen walls

There is a common mistake in specifying a decorative metal screen: treating the pattern as the whole product. Pattern matters, but the final effect also depends on the panel size, the frame proportion, the finish, the wall condition and the way the installer fixes it. This project makes that relationship easy to see. The 3,000 by 2,500 mm dimensions give the wall presence. The 304 stainless steel provides a stable material base. The laser-cut openings provide texture. The top-and-bottom mechanical anchors and adhesive reinforcement make the finished surface practical to place.

For a similar hotel project, the early questions should be straightforward. Where should the screen be visible from? What should it conceal or frame? How will it meet the ceiling, floor or adjacent cladding? Which fixing points can be planned before finishes are complete? These questions are more useful than choosing a pattern in isolation, because they determine whether the screen will look deliberate on the day the hotel opens.
