An elevator lobby is a small space with a high level of repetition. Guests see the doors, wall finish, floor and ceiling together, then experience the same arrangement again when they return. The metalwork has to keep the openings clear, sit neatly beside the wall panels and remain consistent across the full bank of lifts.

For voco Makkah by IHG, Xinmao Metal supplied the stainless steel coverings for the elevator lobby and custom metalwork for the lobby chandelier. The package was designed around the hotel's patterned wall surfaces and timber feature wall, so the metal adds definition without competing with the surrounding materials.

Three elevator openings received mirror-champagne surrounds in 1.2 mm stainless steel. Each opening measures 2.2 m high by 1.5 m wide, with a specified metal wrap area of 3.6 m². The XM-1604 PVD surface brings a consistent warm reflection to the repeated doorways.

Elevator coverings that keep a repeated lobby calm

When several elevators sit along one wall, small inconsistencies quickly become visible. The width of each surround, the line above the doors and the return beside the patterned wall all need to agree. Custom stainless steel coverings give the lobby a clear edge around every opening and help the repeated doors read as one architectural composition.

The gold finish brings warmth to the otherwise light palette. It works with the geometric wall pattern rather than copying it, adding a clean vertical frame to the textured surface. Because the elevator surrounds are made as part of the same package, the corners and transitions can be resolved with the surrounding wall and floor in mind.

A chandelier becomes part of the reception architecture

Above reception, the linear chandelier measures 5 × 0.5 × 0.2 m. Xinmao supplied its metal decorative portion, weighing 31 kg; the fixture is suspended from the ceiling. The metal gives the long form a clear outline while open spacing keeps the wall behind it visible.

This relationship matters because the desk, wall and light are read as one scene. The chandelier should feel anchored to the reception composition, not added after the wall is complete. Its proportions need to sit comfortably between the surrounding stone, the timber counter and the open floor in front of the desk.

Together, the elevator coverings and chandelier show how a focused stainless steel package can connect different parts of a hotel. The elevator lobby uses repeated gold frames; reception uses a suspended linear feature. Both rely on clean metal edges and a controlled relationship with the materials around them.

One-stop metalwork for a clear handover

Xinmao supplied the elevator metalwork and the chandelier’s metal decorative components. Coordinating their dimensions, finish and site interfaces helped the repeated lift surrounds and the suspended reception feature sit comfortably within the same lobby. The complete electrical light fixture was outside Xinmao’s stated supply scope.

For architects and contractors, the project demonstrates a practical approach to hospitality metalwork: use stainless steel where a repeated edge or a strong focal line is needed, then coordinate those pieces with the wall, floor, lighting and furniture. The result is a lobby that feels polished without relying on unnecessary decoration.
